Liza Cotter
Liza Cotter is a partner in Weil’s Technology & IP Transactions and Privacy & Cybersecurity practices. She advises clients across industries on a range of global privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters. Her practice includes counseling clients regarding compliance with privacy regulations and the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies, assisting clients in connection with cyber and data incident preparedness and response, negotiating corporate transactions as well as commercial technology and data sharing agreements, and handling regulatory investigations related to data processing and data security.

Liza is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) and a guest lecturer on cybersecurity at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She regularly speaks and writes on privacy and cybersecurity topics, including algorithmic bias and discrimination, biometric data processing, and the implications of new AI technologies. She has co-authored articles and chapters on IP and privacy topics, including contributions to Bloomberg Law and the Chambers Global Practice Guide, and has spoken on panels for organizations such as the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), Future of Privacy Forum (FPF), New England Venture Capital Association (NEVCA) and Startup Boston.

Liza also maintains an active pro bono practice, which includes assisting nonprofits, particularly in the educational technology space, with privacy-related compliance matters.

Liza received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she served on the University of Virginia Law Review. She received her B.A., summa cum laude, from Boston College.
