Biography

Spencer Hopkins is an associate in Weil’s Private Equity practice and is based in New York. Spencer participates in advising clients on a broad array of corporate transactions and commercial matters, with a primary focus on the sports, media, and entertainment industries. He regularly participates in representing investors and teams in various sports and sports-adjacent transactions, including acquisitions, joint ventures, and minority investments.

Spencer has been part of the teams advising:*

  • Fenway Sports Group as the lead investor in a consortium of investors in the acquisition of a minority share in PGA Tour Enterprises, a commercial branch under the umbrella of the PGA Tour
  • FirstTracks Sports Ventures in its acquisition of a minority stake in Austin F.C.  
  • Michelle Kang and the Washington Spirit in commercial agreements and portfolio company management matters
  • Major League Pickleball, Inc. in its merger with PPA Tour Operations HoldCo LLC, which resulted in a unified professional pickleball organization
  • RHC Group in its acquisition of Aris BC, the historic Greek basketball club based in Thessaloniki
  • A strategic investor in its purchase of a limited partnership interest in the Philadelphia Eagles
  • A limited partner in its transfers of interests in the Washington Commanders
  • A strategic investor in its potential acquisition of a limited partnership interest in Monumental Sports and Entertainment
  • Numerous NCAA division one institutions in their formation of its Name, Image, and Likeness programs

Prior to joining Weil, Spencer was an associate at another international law firm.

Spencer received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and his B.B.A. and B.S. from the University of South Dakota.
