The collapse of Lehman Brothers and the ensuing financial crisis and global recession have resulted in a sea-change in real estate vastly different from what came before. Weil's Real Estate practice developed novel approaches to address these unprecedented challenges. Weil's Real Estate lawyers work in close coordination with Weil's Restructuring lawyers on some of the most complex, industry changing real estate restructurings, including the resolution of Lehman Brothers real estate portfolio; General Growth Properties (n/k/a GGP Inc.) in its $8.5 billion recapitalization and its later spinoff of its subsidiary Rouse Properties; and Extended Stay Hotels in its chapter 11 sale to a group comprising Centerbridge Partners, Paulson & Co. and Blackstone Real Estate Associates VI, among others. Weil currently represents two of the three largest special servicers in many of the largest and most complicated workouts or restructurings situations.
