Weil Welcomes Cody Carper as Houston Energy Build Continues

HOUSTON, AUGUST 15, 2023: International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that prominent energy industry dealmaker Cody Carper has joined the Firm as a partner in the Corporate Department, based in the Houston office.

“We’re delighted to welcome Cody to our rapidly expanding energy practice. His deep industry expertise, background in M&A and private equity and varied experience in the energy sector make him a perfect fit with our growing team in Houston,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf.

“Cody’s arrival furthers our objective of attracting the best lateral talent to our growing energy platform. As our clients increasingly embrace new forms of ‘next-generation’ energy, we aim to provide fully integrated counsel in advising on their complex and evolving needs,” said Michael Aiello, Chairman of Weil’s global Corporate Department.

The addition of Cody reflects Weil’s continued investment in its top-tier Texas energy practice and supports the Firm’s ongoing efforts to be at the forefront of advising on ESG, sustainability and environmental issues. Earlier this year, notable energy partners Omar Samji and Chris Bennett joined Weil’s Houston office.

“Weil has brought on three of the leading lawyers in the energy space in just the past few months – all in Houston,” said Alfredo Pérez, Managing Partner of Weil’s Houston office. “With energy investors increasingly focusing on energy transition, including hydrogen, carbon capture, electrification and renewable natural gas, Weil is committed to providing best-in-market advisors that meet the dynamic needs of our sophisticated global clients.”

Cody focuses on complex energy and infrastructure transactions, including representing private equity sponsors and management teams in acquisitions and divestitures of oil and gas assets, energy financings and joint venture transactions. He also has experience with multiple forms of transition energy, including carbon capture.

Cody joins from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP where he was a partner in the corporate practice, focused on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and energy and infrastructure. Earlier in his career, he served as the assistant general counsel for a large privately held energy company, where he developed extensive experience in operational issues and executive leadership.

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to join the Firm at this exciting time, as the industry strives to meet its decarbonization and climate change goals – with new technologies emerging and market opportunities arising at a breakneck pace,” said Cody. “I look forward to working closely with many of the industry’s finest dealmakers, litigators and restructuring lawyers at Weil.”
