Biography
Semhar Woldai is counsel in Weil’s Private Funds practice and is based in New York. Semhar participates in the representation of private investment fund sponsors in connection with the formation, structuring and negotiation of their investment funds. She also counsels investment firms in connection with the sale of significant minority interests in their businesses to institutional investors and in connection with secondary transactions, including continuation funds. In addition, Semhar participates in the representation of institutional investors in connection with their investments in private equity funds and other private investment funds, and in advising fund sponsors generally with respect to the Federal securities laws, including the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. Semhar’s representative clients include Altamont Capital Partners, Brookfield Asset Management, Pacific Avenue Capital Partners, PSP and WindRose Health Investors.
Semhar received her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and her B.S. from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada. Prior to her legal education, Semhar was a senior investment analyst at a multi-national financial services company and completed level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst Program.
Semhar is actively involved with the Firm’s inclusion and pro-bono efforts, and received the 2022 Osgoode Women’s Network (OWN) Mentorship Award in acknowledgement of her contributions to advancing women in law and her efforts to promote OWN’s principles.
