August Melcher
August Melcher is a Patent Litigation associate in Weil’s Silicon Valley office. He focuses on all aspects of patent law, including cases in district courts and proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).

August’s practice spans a variety of technologies, including small molecule therapeutics, biologics, medical devices, non-invasive, cell-free DNA testing technology, and gene sequencing technology. His experience includes formulating invalidity and noninfringement positions, managing discovery, working with expert witnesses, taking and defending depositions, preliminary injunctions, and pre/post-trial motion practice, as well as trials and appeals at the Federal Circuit. August also has experience counseling clients regarding IP issues related to corporate transactions.

Prior to joining Weil, August worked as a patent litigation associate at another major international law firm. His pro bono experience includes § 1983 civil rights litigation related to a coerced confession. 

August earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he served as an extern at NYU Langone Health’s Department of Technology Transactions. He earned his B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin, and served as a researcher and instructor in UC Berkeley’s Department of Chemistry.
