Edward Soto, Managing Partner of Weil’s Miami office, was named “Pro Bono: Lawyer of the Year” at the Chambers Diversity & Inclusion: North America Awards 2022.
The organization honored Ed for his “extensive and wide-ranging” pro bono efforts, noting that he clocked more than 400 pro bono hours in 2021. Chambers highlighted his work helping to reform the criminal justice system, including helping deaf or hard-of-hearing prisoners end unfair treatment, exonerating wrongfully convicted inmates and aiding immigrants whom Immigration and Customs Enforcement had sought to detain.
Chambers also noted his work expunging convictions for 36 Florida women who had been victims of sex trafficking or abuse.
Ed was recognized with the honor at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles on June 9.
