Weil Shortlisted for Private Equity Law Firm of the Year and Top Deal and Individual Awards at 2024 Thomson Reuters ALB China Law Awards

Weil has been shortlisted for top honors at the 2024 ALB China Law Awards, highlighting the Firm’s accomplishments as one of the top M&A, private equity and restructuring law practices in China.

Weil has been recognized as a finalist for Private Equity Law Firm of the Year, while Asia Managing Partner Charles Ching has been named a finalist for Dealmaker of the Year (International). In addition, Weil has been recognized for its work on the landmark $3.16 billion take-private acquisition of Chindata Group by Bain Capital and the $7 billion debt restructuring of China Aoyuan, which have been shortlisted for M&A Deal of the Year (Premium) and Debt Market Deal of the Year (Premium), respectively.

Weil represented Citigroup Global Markets Asia as financial advisor to the special committee of the board of directors of Chindata Group in connection with the $3.16 billion take-private acquisition of U.S.-listed Chindata Group by Bain Capital. Chindata Group is a leading carrier-neutral hyperscale data center solution provider in Asia-Pacific emerging markets including China, India and Southeast Asia. This award-winning transaction was led by Hong Kong partner Chris Welty, and included Max Chu and Qi Zhang in Hong Kong and Adé Heyliger in Washington, D.C.

Weil acted as counsel to the ad hoc group of bondholders in relation to the successful restructuring of more than $7 billion of offshore debt of China Aoyuan Group Limited and its subsidiary, Add Hero, including over $3 billion of offshore bond debt. Aoyuan is a leading commercial and residential property developer that focuses on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and covers four major regions in the PRC. This novel, market-leading matter was led by Hong Kong partner Kathleen Aka and included Graham Price, Minna Zhang and Isolde Tsukabayashi in Hong Kong.
