Law360 has featured Robert Niles Weed for his remarkable career trajectory, going from a first-year associate to a practice co-head in just over five years. Robert was named Co-Head of Weil’s Appeals & Strategic Counseling practice alongside Zack Tripp in March 2025.

Pointing to his “meteoric rise,” the publication noted that Robert, 36, has helped secure major client wins at Weil following several prominent clerkships, including for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan.

Law360 highlighted prominent victories Robert helped steer, including a unanimous 9-0 U.S. Supreme Court decision in Bartenwerfer v. Buckley, which held that a debt resulting from fraud cannot be discharged through bankruptcy even if the debtor is not liable for the fraud; and Regeneron’s $406.8 million jury verdict on its claims that Amgen Inc., unlawfully monopolized the U.S. market for PCKSK9 inhibitors, a class of medications that reduce hard-to-treat high cholesterol.

The article included a Q&A with Robert in which he discussed his career, why he decided to become an attorney and how he maintains his work-life balance. During his clerkships, he told Law360, he saw how judges determined the important aspects of a case, which has helped him in his own matters.

“I think one of the most important skills I developed in the clerkships is judgment,” Robert said. “In a case where the facts may be complicated, the law may be complicated, how to identify and focus on the points that really matter and that are the issues on which the case is going to be decided.”

His time at Weil helped him grow quickly as an attorney via experience arguing cases and working on trials, bankruptcy and appellate cases. “It has really given me opportunities to work on interesting matters and grow ultimately into this role,” he said.

Robert also credited Weil’s teamwork culture in helping him succeed.

“I’m lucky that in the group and across the Firm, I have colleagues who are willing to step up and help me out in moments when I need it, and I do the same for them,” he said.
