David Greene
David Greene is a partner in Weil’s Private Funds practice and is based in Washington, D.C. and New York. David represents private fund sponsors in the formation and operation of private funds and related alternative asset arrangements.

David has a broad range of experience, including representing sponsors in their global fundraising activities. He advises energy and infrastructure funds, natural resource funds, buyout funds, co‑investment funds, venture funds, credit funds, secondaries funds, real estate funds and other private investment vehicles on investments, operations and exits. He has significant experience negotiating strategic relationships, co‑investments, separately managed accounts, and other long‑term partnering arrangements, as well as on continuation fund transactions and internal sponsor arrangements. He also advises on securities law matters, including under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Securities Act of 1933 and the Investment Company Act of 1940.

David’s representative clients include The Carlyle Group, Integrum, KKR, LLR Partners, Morgan Stanley, New Mountain, IFM, WestCap, Antares, Mechhi Infrastructure, Penfund and SoftBank Group.

David was recommended for Investment Fund Formation and Management by Legal 500 US and was named a 2019 “DC Rising Star” by The National Law Journal. He was also recognized at Euromoney’s Americas Rising Stars awards for advising Carlyle on the formation of Carlyle Partners VII, its $18.5 billion flagship fund and the largest private equity fund raised in 2018, which was named a “Deal of the Year.” David regularly publishes articles on topics relating to the private funds industry, including in the Journal of Investment Compliance (“Marketing Non‑US Private Equity Funds in the United States: A Roadmap Through the Various Regulations and Tax Implications,” 2017), Global Law and Business(“Private Equity Coinvestment,” chapter in Global Investment Funds, 2016) and Law360 (“Private Equity Firms: Prepare For The BE‑180 Survey,” 2015).

Prior to joining Weil, David was a partner at another international law firm.

David received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and his B.A. and B.A.S. from the University of Pennsylvania.
