Weil’s 2026 Pro Bono Annual Review, “Our Finest Hours”

Download

At Weil, “Our Finest Hours” is not just a slogan for our pro bono practice. It signals the importance our lawyers place on giving back to the communities in which we live and work. In each instance, we demonstrate the same quality of judgment, the same commitment to client goals, and the same passionate advocacy our paying matters receive.

We are committed to helping our communities by assisting those in need, but we aspire to do even more. We look for and develop innovative ways to deliver our pro bono services – including partnerships with legal services providers and in-house corporate legal teams – to maximize their effectiveness and to provide models that other firms can emulate.

The driving force behind our efforts remains our clients. We believe that it is our obligation to volunteer our skills to those who would otherwise face severe challenges as victims of injustice or abuse without legal representation. Our clients include, among others, asylum seekers who need protection from persecution in their homelands; tenants who face eviction from their homes; veterans unfairly denied benefits; prisoners wrongfully convicted and incarcerated; and nonprofits developing creative ways to meet the needs of the communities they serve. Our work touches people the world over and involves lawyers from every office at our firm.

In 2025, Weil attorneys dedicated over 70,000 hours to pro bono work. Because of our areas of focus – children’s welfare, civil and constitutional rights, community and economic development, criminal justice, human rights, nonprofits, and refuge and asylum – most of those hours were spent helping underrepresented people gain the legal assistance they need to face serious challenges and hardships. To help meet this need, we maintain the goal that every lawyer perform at least 50 hours of pro bono work each year; the expectation that every partner not only work on a pro bono matter themselves every year but also supervise other attorneys’ efforts; and the requirement that every new attorney, regardless of level, take on a pro bono matter upon joining the firm. While the policy gives us a useful yardstick to measure our pro bono activity, our efforts are best reflected in the empathy, energy, and passion of our lawyers who take on matters of great importance to our clients. The results we achieve can be life-altering.

It is for good reason that we call the time we spend on pro bono work “Our Finest Hours.” We invite you to explore a sampling of our work to discover why we take such pride in these accomplishments.
