Weil is proud of our service to the most vulnerable members of our society. We believe it is the ethical obligation of our attorneys to use their legal skills to advance justice and defend the humanity of those who need our assistance. At Weil, pro bono is integral to our practice, and we are steadfast in our commitment to helping those in need without the resources to defend themselves to meet the challenges they face. This past year has demonstrated the tireless work and world-class advocacy that only a firm like Weil can offer. As we support causes like human rights, economic opportunity, and racial justice, we strive to make our world fairer and more inclusive.
Our work encompasses a broad spectrum of need across both high-profile and lesser-known matters. We have focused our resources on matters where we can genuinely make a difference for both individual clients and pro bono partner organizations, on issues ranging from criminal justice reform to asylum; civil rights to fair housing law; protecting women’s reproductive rights to the environment; and preventing human trafficking and domestic violence to defending LGBTQ+ rights.
In 2024, we helped reunite refugee families from nations such as Afghanistan, Syria and the Democratic Republic of Congo. We advocated for disabled children in New Hampshire’s foster care system who have been unnecessarily institutionalized. Weil has continued to fight for the religious rights of prisoners and has remained dedicated to defending a minor who was unlawfully seized by the police. Weil secured a historic civil rights settlement on behalf of the Brandeis Center, in which Harvard University agreed to implement numerous measures aimed at combating anti-Semitism on campus and creating a welcoming environment for Jewish students.
It is both an honor and privilege to work with our nonprofit partners, whose relentless dedication to justice inspires us constantly. These organizations include the International Refugee Assistance Project, the Innocence Project, Start Small Think Big, The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, and Kids in Need of Defense.
Weil’s policy includes requirements for all lawyers to do 50 hours or more of pro bono work each year, for all new attorneys to take on a matter, and for all partners to supervise at least one pro bono matter per year. The dedication, compassion and talent of Weil’s attorneys and staff continue to amaze us, as the Firm collectively contributed nearly 80,000 hours of pro bono service last year. We consider our pro bono work “Our Finest Hours.” We trust, as you read these pages, that you will agree.
