NEW YORK, September 24, 2026: International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP today announced that Debra M. Sinclair will return to the Firm as a partner in the U.S. Restructuring practice, effective in the coming weeks.
For decades, Weil has been at the forefront of the restructuring market, helping clients navigate their most critical moments. Debra’s return adds a generational talent to that platform and reflects the Firm’s commitment to investing in the attorneys and capabilities its clients need when the stakes are highest.
Debra began her legal career at Weil in 2013 and is the seventh former Weil lawyer to return to the Firm this year, and the 22nd since the beginning of 2023. Her appointment comes as Weil continues a period of deliberate growth that has seen the Firm welcome more than 50 lateral partners since the beginning of 2025 and nearly 90 since 2023.
“Debbie’s return reflects the strength of Weil’s platform and the momentum we continue to see across the Firm,” said Barry Wolf, Executive Partner of Weil. “We have been very deliberate about investing in exceptional talent who strengthen our market-leading practices and our culture. Debbie does both, and we are delighted to welcome her back to Weil.”
“Debbie began her career at Weil and returns as an established leader in the restructuring market,” said Ramona Nee, incoming Executive Partner of Weil. “That makes her return particularly meaningful for our Firm and our people, and we are thrilled to welcome her home.”
“Debbie is an extremely sought-after restructuring lawyer,” said Matt Barr, Global Chair of Weil’s Restructuring Department. “Clients turn to her in particularly complex, high-stakes moments, when there is no obvious playbook and success depends on judgment, creativity, and courtroom presence. She has built an exceptional practice and bringing her back to Weil adds even greater depth to a team that has been at the center of the restructuring field for decades.”
Debra has built a leading company-side practice advising businesses through consequential restructurings. Most recently, she led the all-women core team that guided Saks Global Holdings LLC through one of the most complex chapter 11 cases in recent years, a distinct milestone in the history of corporate restructurings. She also recently played leading roles representing NanoString Technologies and Hello Bello in their chapter 11 cases.
“Having started my career at Weil, I know firsthand the strength of the Firm’s premier restructuring platform and the collaborative culture that sets the team apart,” said Debra Sinclair. “I am excited to return and build on my debtor-side practice alongside lawyers I have long respected, and to contribute to the continued growth of a team with such a strong reputation in the market.”
Debra rejoins Weil from another AmLaw 50 firm where she served as U.S. Co-Chair of that firm’s Strategic Capital and Restructuring Department and Chair of its Company Restructuring & Reorganization practice.
Debra has been widely recognized for her work in the restructuring field. In 2024, the American Bankruptcy Institute named her to its “40 Under 40” list of Emerging Leaders in Insolvency Practice. She was selected as a Law360 “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy and honored by Turnarounds & Workouts as an “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer.” Crain’s New York Business named her to its 2026 Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting & Law list. Beyond her restructuring practice, Debra has also been recognized for her commitment to pro bono service, receiving honors from both The Legal Aid Society and Immigration Equality.
