Candace Arthur Named 2021 Rising Star for Bankruptcy by Law360

Restructuring partner Candace Arthur has been named one of Law360’s “Rising Stars” for Bankruptcy in recognition of her expertise and accomplishments advising on complex restructurings.

Law360’s profile of Candace, one of just five Bankruptcy honorees nationwide, noted her record of “deploying creative business solutions to address her clients’ needs” and the impact of her work at the very forefront of the industry. The profile highlighted her recent success advising J.Crew Group Inc. in its pre-arranged restructuring, an efficient and streamlined proceeding that enabled J.Crew to convert more than $1.6 billion of debt into equity, raise over $400 million in new financing and preserve its workforce.

"The case was just such a great example of how Chapter 11 could really work for a company and I was proud to be senior on the deal," Candace told Law360. "Chapter 11 can be scary for a lot of reasons and I think we really just did a bang-up job. It was a career case."

The profile also noted her role advising J.Crew on its groundbreaking out-of-court restructuring in 2017 that transferred intellectual property to an unrestricted subsidiary as security for new debt.

"It was creative and it was a challenge because it wasn't something that was done at that time," Candace said. "I loved being a part of that and being a part of that team."

Law360 also highlighted her representation of AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. in a recent series of capital raising and restructuring efforts.

In addition, Candace discussed the development of her restructuring practice, the satisfactions of working in such a multifaceted field and the ongoing importance of her mentors at Weil.

"I am motivated by the people who invested in me, my mentors," Candace said. "I've been fortunate to work with some of the brightest people in the field."
