Nili Moghaddam
Nili Moghaddam is an experienced first-chair trial lawyer who focuses on complex commercial litigation, government and internal investigations, white collar defense, and regulatory compliance. Based in New York with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Nili possesses a unique blend of senior in-house and government prosecutorial experience.

Nili advises clients on the full spectrum and life cycle of dispute resolution, particularly multi-faceted engagements that involve litigation, internal investigations, and regulatory scrutiny. Clients also regularly retain her to help navigate their most essential disputes through trial. She has deep expertise across sectors, including technology, AI, and financial institutions.

Some of her notable experience includes:*

  • Securing a complete defense verdict as lead trial counsel to a Fortune 50 company, its CEO, and former CEO in a trial in the Southern District of New York. Nili was retained just six weeks before the trial date.
  • Serving as trial counsel in a federal jury trial involving claims of false advertising and unfair competition against a U.S.-based medical device company.
  • Serving as trial counsel in a federal jury trial involving claims of trademark infringement.
  • Representing a REIT as a nonparty in an Ohio state court action alleging breach of an executive non-compete agreement.
  • Representing a global insurance company, in its capacity as a claim processor for an auto manufacturer, in a multidistrict consumer class action litigation.
  • Representing a global insurance company in investigations conducted by the SEC, DOJ, New York AG, and various insurance commissioners, as well as in related civil litigation.
  • Representing a global bank in an investigation conducted by the Congressional Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
  • Representing a telecommunications company in an SEC investigation into alleged insider trading.
  • Representing a former bank officer in a DOJ investigation involving an alleged $150 million bank fraud scheme.
  • Representing a REIT in an SEC investigation involving alleged accounting improprieties.
  • Representing a global medical device corporation in an FCPA investigation conducted by the DOJ and SEC involving payments allegedly made to government officials in multiple countries across Asia and Europe.
  • Representing a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company in an SEC investigation involving the company’s social media marketing and grant of stock options.

In addition to her work in private practice, Nili has extensive experience in government and senior in-house legal roles, which provides her with essential perspectives on the nexus of business and law, and balancing competing and complex operational and compliance issues.

From 2008 through 2014, Nili served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California, where she investigated, prosecuted, and tried complex cases involving national security, racketeering, and financial offenses. During this time, she tried numerous cases to verdict and advised on appellate issues.

From 2018 through 2024, Nili worked in senior in-house roles at digital tech startups, including financial services platform Robinhood, where she was one of the unicorn’s first lawyers and quickly rose to Head of Litigation & Investigations. Most recently, Nili served as Chief Legal Officer of Founders Fund-backed property technology company Bungalow Living, where she oversaw the legal and compliance functions.

Nili also has worked as a litigation attorney at other prominent international law firms, advising corporations and individuals in complex federal and state court litigation, criminal and regulatory enforcement matters, and compliance audits.

She is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California’s Standing Committee on Discipline, as well as a member of the Board of the Brown Alumni Entrepreneurship Group.

Nili has received extensive recognition for her work in private practice and government. For example, California Lawyer Magazine named her California Lawyer Attorney of the Year in 2013, and Los Angeles Business Journal honored her among the “Most Influential Minority Lawyers” in 2016. While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she was nominated for the “Attorney General’s Award” honoring distinguished service.

She received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. After law school, she served as a law clerk to the Hon. John S. Martin, Jr. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. She earned her B.A., with Honors, Phi Beta Kappa, from Brown University.
