Weil’s Dallas office was honored with the Angel of Freedom Award by Human Rights Initiative of North Texas for contributing more pro bono hours – a total of 879 by attorneys and legal staff – to HRI than any other law firm in the last fiscal year. The annual award recognizes “the institution that has gone above and beyond in giving their time, energy, and resources to HRI and HRI clients,” and the Dallas office was specifically honored for consistently taking on the “hardest defensive asylum cases.” The award was presented on December 2, 2022 at the Kimpton Pittman Hotel in Dallas.

HRI provides free legal services to people who have suffered human rights abuses, including asylum seekers fleeing persecution; those protected under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Victims of Trafficking and the Violence Protection Act; immigrants abused by a spouse who is a U.S. citizen or green card holder; and immigrant children who are victims of violent crimes, neglect, abuse or abandonment.
