Weil Earns Top 20 Ranking in The American Lawyer’s 2023 Pro Bono Scorecard

Weil moved up to No. 20 in the 2023 edition of The American Lawyer’s annual Pro Bono Scorecard, a ranking of Am Law 200 firms based on the pro bono work performed by U.S.-based lawyers.

Half of the score reflects the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer in 2022; the other half represents the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work. Weil’s U.S. lawyers worked an average of 73.6 pro bono hours in 2022, with 79.7% of Firm lawyers contributing 20 hours or more.

Weil was also ranked No. 22 in The American Lawyer’s 2023 International Pro Bono Scorecard, determined by pro bono work performed by lawyers based outside the United States.

Weil’s Pro Bono practice implements the Firm’s deeply held belief that contributing to the legal representation of the less fortunate and unjustly treated in our society is among the highest values a law firm can hold. The importance Weil places on providing these services to the community is demonstrated by the Firm’s goal of having all lawyers perform 50 hours of pro bono work each year. Toward that end, every partner is expected to work on a pro bono matter every year, and every new attorney – including lateral partners – is required to take on a pro bono matter. Since the current policy was instituted in 2005, Weil has performed more than 1 million hours of pro bono work and has had a meaningful impact on thousands of lives.
