Jonathon New
Jonathon is counsel in the Restructuring team in London. Jonathon has experience in advising insolvency practitioners, bondholder groups, lenders, private equity sponsors and distressed corporate clients on a range of financial and corporate restructuring and insolvency matters.

Jonathon’s principal areas of practice focus on cross-border and domestic restructurings, bondholder and creditor representations, debtor representations and out-of-court restructurings. Jonathon also has experience in complex, multi-jurisdictional insolvency litigation having originally worked for the Disputes and Investigations department of a major Australian law firm.

Recent experience includes:

  • Advising an ad hoc group of secured lenders to the world’s largest regional aircraft lessor, Nordic Aviation Capital, in relation to its ongoing restructuring
  • Advising an ad hoc group of unsecured bondholders of Obrasson Huarte Lain, S.A. in relation to its balance sheet restructuring, including an English scheme of arrangement
  • Advising a hedge fund and significant creditor of Premier Oil in relation to its balance sheet restructuring and related transactions
  • Advising an ad hoc group of senior secured lender of Seadrill in relation to its proposed balance sheet restructuring
  • Advising a group of secured RCF and ancillary facility providers of KCA Deutag in relation to its balance sheet restructuring, including an English scheme of arrangement
  • Advising the directors of Intu Properties plc, and certain of its subsidiaries*
  • Advising the directors of Steinhoff International N.V., and certain of its subsidiaries, in relation to its financial restructuring and a range of intra-group reorganisations, including inter-conditional CVAs*
  • Advising an ad hoc group of bondholder of the Toys R Us group in relation to the European and Australian aspects of the liquidation or realisation of group assets, including implementation of its emergence transaction*
  • Advising the receivers and managers and the liquidators of Forge Group Limited in relation to various proceedings commenced in Australia, Texas, New York, California and the LCIA, including Chapter 15 recognition proceedings*
  • Advising the receivers and mangers and bondholders of Quintis Ltd, and certain of its subsidiaries, in relation to its balance sheet restructuring, including an inter-conditional Australian scheme of arrangement and deed of company arrangement*
