International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP announced today that Alec Campbell has joined the Firm as a partner in the Tax Department, based in the New York office.
Alec’s practice focuses on advising U.S. and international investment fund managers with regard to the tax aspects of their fundraising and liquidity needs. He regularly advises on the tax aspects of private fund formation, secondaries transactions, GP-stake and other upper-tier transactions for alternative asset managers as well as liquidity solutions for private funds and their sponsors.
“Alec is a highly regarded tax lawyer with a proven track record advising private fund sponsors and investors on complex, high-stakes transactions,” said Weil Executive Partner Barry Wolf. “We are pleased to welcome him to Weil.”
“As Weil’s Private Funds Group continues to grow across primary fundraising and secondaries transactions, Alec’s addition to our Tax team will support that momentum,” said Paul Wessel, Chairman of Weil’s Tax Department. “Alec’s arrival strengthens our ability to advise investment fund managers on the tax aspects of secondaries transactions and sponsor-led strategies. He brings sharp judgment and a thoughtful approach that will integrate seamlessly with our Tax Department.”
Alec’s fund formation experience spans across private fund strategies and asset classes and his secondaries transactions experience includes continuation funds, GP stakes transactions and other liquidity solutions. He also represents investment fund managers and institutional investors in the purchase and sale of private fund interests across transactions of varying scale and complexity.
Alec joins Weil from DLA Piper, where he was a partner in the Tax practice.
“I am excited to join Weil as it rapidly expands its Private Funds capabilities,” said Alec Campbell. “The strength of the Tax Department, the collaborative culture and the Firm’s leading practice in this space create a powerful platform. I look forward to working with my colleagues to help clients navigate their most complex transactions.”
