Ginger McKnight-Chavers Publishes Debut Novel

Weil alumna Ginger McKnight-Chavers has recently published her debut novel, In the Heart of Texas. The novel has been hailed as a "Best Fiction Book by a Woman of Color" by Bustle.com and a "Top Pick" by RT Book Reviews. The novel follows forty-one-year-old soap star Jo Randolph who has returned to her home in Midland, Texas after losing her job in Hollywood after a series of mishaps. Back in Texas, she reconnects with her roots as she regains touch with herself as an artist and with what is meaningful in life. The publisher describes the novel as a “wry, humorous commentary on the complexities of race, class, relationships, politics, popular culture, and celebrity in our current society.”

Ms. McKnight-Chavers was previously an associate in Weil's Corporate Department in New York and is a graduate of Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service and Harvard Law School. Ms. McKnight-Chavers is a native of Dallas, Texas and currently blogs for the Huffington Post and the TexPatch. She has previously served as in-house counsel at Black Entertainment Television, Warner-Lambert Company and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. She is an active member of the Friends of Education of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Women’s Leadership Forum of the Democratic National Committee, the Junior League of New York City, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the advisory board of Latino Playwrights, Jack and Jill of America – Westchester County Chapter, the American Bar Association, the City Bar of New York and the Parents’ Association of Horace Mann School. She was the 2008 recipient of the Kathryn Gurfein Writing Fellowship award at Sarah Lawrence College.
