Vowing to build “the best IP litigation team on the planet,” eminent intellectual property lawyers Doug LumishJeff Homrig and Gabe Gross joined Weil on July 31 in a group move that lit up the legal press.

Doug and Jeff come aboard as Co-Heads of Weil’s new IP, Technology & Science practice. They will anchor the Firm’s growing nationwide capabilities in these areas, and, together with Weil’s market-leading IP/Media and Technology & IP Transactions practices, will provide clients with full-spectrum counsel across all facets of IP disputes. Doug and Gabe will reside in the Firm’s Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices, and Jeff will be based in Texas. Doug and Jeff are returning to Weil after beginning their legal careers at the Firm. Both had been integral members of the Firm’s renowned Patent and IP Litigation team based in Silicon Valley.

“This was an opportunity to come back to a firm I love, and our mission is to build the best IP litigation team on the planet, and have fun while we do it,” Doug told The American Lawyer. “I learned how to be a lawyer at Weil,” Jeff added. “That was really a North Star for my whole career. Weil puts excellence and teamwork first, and that is both very rare and appealing to me.” Jeff told Law360 that “Weil is the perfect platform for this top-shelf trial practice. Our team puts excellence and teamwork first, and that is a core value for Weil.”

The Lawyer in London reported that “Weil swoops for three-strong IP team from Latham.” In California, the Daily Journal wrote that “Weil is expanding strategically to lead IP litigation in advancing fields like biotechnology, life sciences, AI and high tech.” Bloomberg Law noted that Weil’s recruitment of its new partners was made “with an eye toward West Coast growth.” Global Legal Post observed that the Firm “has hired a trio of IP partners from Latham & Watkins to continue building out its technology litigation capabilities in the U.S.”
