Weil’s impressive and unique success in rehiring former attorneys as partners was highlighted in a feature article in The Lawyer, which noted that no fewer than 15 partners have returned to the Firm in the past two years.
The article noted the positive implications of this trend as a reflection of Firm culture, suggesting that the exceptional rate of returning partners indicates “a certain stickiness, a cultural glue and an understanding of the power of alumni.”
The Lawyer reported on Weil’s recent rehires of Doug Lumish, Jeff Homrig, Joseph Lee, Phil Baynes, Tom Mastoras and Jean-Christophe David from competitor firms as notable examples of high-profile rehires, and noted the Firm’s election of 17 new partners effective January 1, 2026.
According to The Lawyer’s research, Weil’s success with returners is “highly unusual” among competitor firms, with the article concluding that “it’s a metric to be celebrated.”
