David Cohen Named 2025 Bankruptcy Rising Star by Law360

Restructuring partner and Co-Managing Partner of the Miami office David J. Cohen has been named one of Law360’s 2025 “Rising Stars” for Bankruptcy, honoring his career achievements guiding high-stakes restructurings.

Law360 noted David’s work on a number of complex corporate bankruptcies throughout his career, including advising Steward Health Care in its chapter 11 cases involving more than $9 billion in debt obligations; Westinghouse Electric Company in its chapter 11 cases and $4.6 billion sale to Brookfield; as well as Brooks Brothers in its chapter 11 cases and $325 million sale.

David said the Steward restructuring, which involved the sale of 28 hospitals in eight states, has been the biggest case of his career.

"When we got involved with Steward, it was facing significant liquidity issues, a lot of regulatory challenges and really needed a solution," David told Law360. "You're dealing with hospitals and real patients . . . and making sure that they have access to medicine, medical equipment."

David said his proudest moment as an attorney was when the Firm named him Co-Managing Partner of the Miami office at the age of 37.

He explained how the challenges in bankruptcy law motivate him by offering the opportunity to solve complex issues. "It's more than pushing paper around or moving money from one person's hands to another. It's about preserving great companies that preserve people's jobs," David said.
