Derek Yap
Derek Yap is an associate in Weil’s Antitrust practice, where he advises on all aspects of EU and UK competition law, including merger control, restrictive practices, market dominance and general counselling and compliance.

Prior to joining Weil, Derek served as a legal adviser at the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and was an associate in the Malaysian office of a leading regional firm.

Representative experience, including prior to joining Weil, includes acting for:

  • The CMA in the Aramark/Entier Phase 2 merger investigation and appeal proceedings before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal
  • The CMA in the Cloud Services Market Investigation
  • A Malaysian e-government service provider in its judicial review application before the High Court of Malaya and Court of Appeal of Malaysia arising from the Malaysia Competition Commission’s first abuse of dominance decision
  • Two Malaysian ferry operators in relation to a price-fixing infringement decision by the Malaysia Competition Commission concerning the roll-on/roll-off vehicle transport market
  • A Nasdaq-listed Singaporean multinational technology conglomerate against a proposed abuse of dominance decision by the Malaysia Competition Commission
