Weil 1L LASER Program for First-Year Law Students

About the Weil 1L LASER Summer Associate Program

Participants will spend their 1L summer (2027) in Weil's New York office working as part of LASER (Lawyer-Augmented Solutions Engineering & Research), Weil’s artificial intelligence and machine learning team. This 10-week 1L summer program, which runs coextensively with Weil’s 2L summer program, requires no prior coding or mathematics background. Participants will learn Python from the ground up, construct a neural network, and examine how to scale up to the large language models shaping the legal practice. Participants will work under the guidance of a dedicated LASER Architect mentor to develop legal software applications and contribute to an academic research initiative on artificial intelligence and the law. Participants’ 2L summer (2028) will be spent as a Weil Summer Associate.
