Juan Lorente Sorolla
Juan Lorente Sorolla is an associate in Weil’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice, based in Silicon Valley. He represents technology, consumer, energy, and retail companies, as plaintiffs and defendants, in complex commercial disputes, class actions, trade secret matters, and bankruptcy litigation in state and federal courts nationwide.

Juan has experience across every phase of a case, from pleadings through trial preparation, and has taken primary drafting responsibility for dispositive motions, preliminary injunction papers, and discovery motions. Juan has also managed third-party and expert discovery, conducted meet-and-confers, taken depositions, and supported complex evidentiary hearings and mediations.

Some of his recent experience includes serving on Weil teams representing:

  • ExxonMobil in a series of lawsuits over the recyclability of plastics, including a putative nationwide class action dismissed in September 2026, working on the matters from the pleadings stage through third-party discovery, deposition preparation, and trial strategy.
  • First Brands Group in its chapter 11 cases, from the contested financing hearings through plan confirmation and related adversary proceedings, including discovery disputes, witness preparation, motion practice, and preparing key witness examinations for the confirmation hearing.
  • A direct-to-consumer wellness company as defendant and counterclaim-plaintiff in a trade secret and contract dispute with its former manufacturer, including taking a key fact-witness deposition, conducting the meet-and-confers with opposing counsel, and briefing the opposition to a motion to dismiss the company’s counterclaims.
  • A leading cloud communications company in a high-value contract dispute with a strategic partner, serving as the primary associate from pre-suit strategy through mediation and advising the client directly on remedies and damages. The dispute resolved at mediation.
  • A global technology company on commercial litigation counseling matters, including supply-agreement and licensing disputes, indemnification questions, and class action strategy.

Juan maintains an active pro bono practice. With the Sikh Coalition and the Asian Law Caucus, he was part of the Weil team that secured a 2026 writ of mandate ordering the California DMV to allow nearly 20,000 immigrant commercial drivers to reapply for licenses it had cancelled.

Prior to joining Weil, Juan practiced at a leading Silicon Valley law firm.

Juan received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as Submissions Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and as a research and teaching assistant to Professor Charles Nesson, researching the evolution of the American jury since the founding and proposals for reforming the jury system as it operates today. He also externed for the Honorable Josephine L. Staton of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Juan earned his B.S., magna cum laude, in Industrial Engineering from Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College, where he graduated as Student Marshal (valedictorian). A native of Madrid, he is fluent in Spanish.
