Weil Triply Honored by Financial Times at its 2023 North America Innovative Lawyers Awards

Weil garnered three recognitions at the 2023 Financial Times North America Innovative Lawyers Awards, held in New York on December 4, 2023.

The Firm was honored in the “Innovative Lawyers in Technology,” “Change Maker” and “Innovation in People & Skills Development” categories.

Weil was “Highly Commended” for its successful antitrust representation of Meta in its acquisition of Within Unlimited in the Technology category, with the publication noting how Weil helped Meta “overturn objections to the deal from the Federal Trade Commission, the US competition regulator, which had argued that Meta would gain an unfair advantage in the emerging VR market.”

Pro Bono Counsel Miriam Buhl was “Commended” in the “Change Maker” category for leading Weil’s Pro Bono practice since joining the Firm in 2005. Financial Times honored Miriam for her efforts to encourage lawyers at all levels of the Firm to dedicate hours to pro bono service and the Firm’s work with organizations such as The Innocence Project and the Public International Law and Policy Group. FT noted that Miriam “has made it an expectation that lawyers at all levels at the firm should commit to pro bono hours.”

Weil was “Highly Commended” and Banking & Finance partner Justin D. Lee was individually “Commended” for his leadership of WeilPride, the Firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group, in FT’s People & Skills category. WeilPride, the report noted, “has supported the rollout of a family benefits scheme, including financial contributions for fertility treatment, adoption and surrogacy, as well as providing advice and support through the network.”

Shortlists for both categories were compiled by RSGI researchers and Financial Times editors. To view the full North American Innovative Lawyers Special Report, please visit Financial Times.
