Weil Shortlisted for Three Awards at Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America 2023

Weil has been shortlisted for three honors at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America Awards 2023.

The Firm was named a finalist in the “Innovative Lawyers in Technology,” “Change Maker” and “Innovation in People & Skills Development” categories.

Weil’s successful representation of Meta in its acquisition of Within Unlimited garnered recognition in the technology category. A cross-office Weil team defeated a request by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to preliminarily enjoin Meta’s acquisition of Within, the developer of the popular virtual reality fitness app Supernatural.

Pro Bono Counsel Miriam Buhl was named a finalist for the “Change Maker” category for leading Weil’s Pro Bono practice since joining the Firm in 2005. Her fervent commitment to pro bono advocacy and work in imbuing that same passion throughout Weil’s culture have resulted in life-changing outcomes for those less fortunate and unjustly treated.

WeilPride, the Firm’s LGBTQ+ affinity group led by Banking & Finance partner Justin Lee, was shortlisted in the category of “Innovation in People & Skills Development.” Under Justin’s leadership, the group actively works to improve the recruitment, retention and development of LGBTQ+ attorneys and staff, helping to make Weil the law firm of choice for this diverse community. Justin was the driving force behind WeilPride’s groundbreaking LGBTQ+-inclusive family-building benefit program that provides surrogacy, adoption and fertility benefits to all U.S. Weil employees.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in New York on December 4. A special report will also be published about the honorees in which the Financial Times will “explore the key trends and transformations taking place in the legal sector.”
