Weil Ranked Among Most Innovative North American Law Firms in 2021 by FT

Weil was recognized among select firms in the “Most Innovative Law Firm – Practice of Law” category in the 2021 Financial Times North America Innovative Lawyers report, released today. The publication highlighted how “North American law firms have had an extraordinary pandemic. Most of the top commercial firms have experienced rocketing client demand, higher productivity, and record revenues and profitability.”

Additionally, Elizabeth S. Weiswasser, Co-Head of Weil’s Patent Litigation and Life Sciences practices, was recognized among distinguished peers in the “Most Innovative Legal Practitioner” category. The Financial Times noted her instrumental role in pivoting the Firm’s Patent Litigation practice to focus on life sciences, and the growth and success the Firm has seen in the practice area. The profile also underscored: “Clients praise Weiswasser’s ability to assemble a team that is diverse in skillset and includes under-represented groups.”

The Firm was also recognized in the “Innovation in Rescue and Recovery” category for its groundbreaking work advising AMC on its restructuring and capital raising efforts. The Financial Times reported “AMC, one of the world’s largest cinema chains, capitalized on the boom in retail share trading in June by relying on at-the-market equity offerings to avoid an in-court restructuring,” commenting that this is “normally a risky way for a company facing bankruptcy to raise capital.” The profile went on to note how Weil “worked with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to gain regulatory approval for the plan and negotiated significant concessions from the cinema chain’s landlords.”
