Amanda Fenster Recognized as 2020 Rising Star of M&A by The Deal

Weil Mergers & Acquisitions partner Amanda Fenster has been named a “Rising Star” by The Deal and profiled as one of the most promising new partners in her field.

The profile discussed Ms. Fenster’s path to Weil, which included high-level experience in-house, the attraction of working on sophisticated deals and the satisfaction she gets from being not just a legal resource but a close business advisor to her clients.

“Amanda is an extremely talented lawyer,” Weil’s Corporate Department Chairman Michael J. Aiello told The Deal. “Having worked both in-house and in private practice, she brings unique perspective to clients and has become an invaluable member of our M&A team.”

The article noted Ms. Fenster’s expertise at complex, multibillion-dollar transactions, highlighting her recent work advising Willis Towers Watson PLC in its proposed $80B combination with Aon PLC and Brookfield Asset Management Inc.’s $4.8B purchase of a 61.2% stake in Oaktree Capital Group LLC. The Deal also highlighted her representation of Eli Lilly and Company in connection with the separation and initial public offering of Elanco Animal Health Incorporated.

Ms. Fenster attributed her personal success to more than her business acumen or skills as dealmaker.

“For me the biggest gift of my practice is that I work with lawyers who are not only at the top of their fields but who really enjoy working together,” Ms. Fenster said. “M&A is best practiced in a collaborative manner rather than a solo practice or directing an outside firm.”

Her collaborative approach to business extends beyond her colleagues. The profile also noted how her in-house experience has given her a deep appreciation for client relationships, proactive counsel and what it takes to be an excellent outside advisor.

Ms. Fenster was promoted to partner in Weil’s Mergers & Acquisitions practice in January 2020. The recent partner class, consisting of nine women and seven men across seven offices globally, is the most diverse partner class in Weil’s history.
