Biography

Sara Weiss is an associate in Weil’s Appeals and Strategic Counseling and Complex Commercial Litigation practices, where she focuses on litigating a broad array of complex commercial cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts nationwide and before arbitration panels.
Sara’s notable experiences include serving on Weil teams representing:
- The respondent, a creditor, before the U.S. Supreme Court in Bartenwerfer v. Buckley, addressing the scope of a debtor’s vicarious liability for fraud under the Bankruptcy Code.
- Upsolve, Inc. in the Southern District of New York in a First Amendment challenge to protect Upsolve’s mission to train non-lawyers to provide limited legal advice to low-income New Yorkers who face debt collection actions.
- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce in an amicus brief before the U.S. Supreme Court in Morgan v. Sundance, on the question of whether a party can waive the right to arbitrate absent prejudice to the other side.
Sara also has an active pro bono practice, including recent representation of an individual seeking to protect their religious freedoms as part of a Weil team in Walker v. Baldwin, No. 22-2342 (7th Cir.).
Sara received her J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was awarded the John Ordronaux Prize, Ruth Bader Ginsburg Prize, and Wilfred Feinberg Prize. She was also an Editorial Staff Member for the Journal of the Law & the Arts. She received her B.A. in Art History, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Tufts University.
