Outside the firm, Ernie is an active member of the legal community and has received several awards and scholarships in recognition of his academic achievements and commitment to improving diversity in the profession. This includes the American Intellectual Property Law Association Past Presidents Award and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Silicon Valley & Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedoms Joint Scholarship.
Ernie earned his J.D., cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law, where he received the Mabie Award for the Outstanding Graduate and High Technology Law Institute Intellectual Property Specialization Certificate with Honors. He is a member of the Order of the Coif national honors society and served as an extern to the Honorable Beth Labson Freeman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Symposium Editor for the Santa Clara High Technology Law Journal, senior associate for the Santa Clara Journal of International Law, and co-president of the Santa Clara Law Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and EQSCU LGBTQIA Advocates student groups. He also holds an M.Ed. from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Molecular & Cell Biology and B.A. in Cognitive Science from the University of California.
