Avni Patel

Biography

Avni Patel is an associate in Weil’s Banking & Finance practice and is based in New York. Ms. Patel participates in advising banks and other financial institutions (including numerous prominent non-bank private lenders), as well as borrowers, private equity sponsors and public companies in a variety of complex financing transactions, including first and second lien credit facilities, middle market and large cap financings, cross-border and domestic acquisition financings, leveraged lending, direct and syndicated lending, unitranche and first out/last out financings, structured financial arrangements, asset-based lending, subscription facilities and debt restructuring transactions. Ms. Patel also participates in advising clients on debt compliance matters, working capital arrangements and corporate governance matters.

Ms. Patel spends a significant amount of time participating in the representation of private credit direct lenders in loans to public companies, privately-owned companies and portfolio companies of numerous private equity funds, as well as on opportunities in existing credits and in bespoke credit structures for stressed and distressed companies. 

Ms. Patel also counsels pro bono clients on not-for-profit corporation law and general corporate governance and has worked on asylum and other immigration matters.

Prior to joining Weil, Ms. Patel was a finance associate at another international law firm.

Ms. Patel received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, where she was a Dean’s Scholar and an Articles Editor for the Michigan Business & Entrepreneurial Law Review, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from New York University.

Ms. Patel is fluent in Gujarati and is proficient in Hindi and Spanish.
