Weil partner Yehudah Buchweitz was named an MVP for Media & Entertainment by Law360 in recognition of his work successfully litigating high-profile cases on behalf of CBS, Showtime, and Simon & Schuster, among others in 2015.
Mr. Buchweitz, a member of the Firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation group, helped win a key dismissal for CBS in June, when a Tennessee federal court dismissed a complaint that accused the broadcaster and others of violating federal antitrust and intellectual property laws, as well as the state's right of publicity law, with its broadcasts of college football and basketball games.
In another victory hinging on publicity rights, Mr. Buchweitz was also able to help CBS defeat class certification in a different case in July, in part by providing the court with a survey of the differences in right of publicity laws across the nation.
Mr. Buchweitz is also representing Showtime in multidistrict litigation concerning boxer Manny Pacquiao’s shoulder injury before his “Fight of the Century” in May with Floyd Mayweather, and recently helped Simon & Schuster defeat an e-books price-fixing suit brought by an e-book retailer.
The profile also discusses the historic religious liberty victory Mr. Buchweitz obtained in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 2015 on behalf of a group of observant Jews seeking to establish an eruv on Long Island.
