Weil Litigation partner and Pro Bono co-chair Steven Alan Reiss was honored by New York Lawyers for the Public Interest at the group’s annual Law & Society Award Luncheon on February 14, 2013. Jane Sherburne, general counsel of BNY Mellon, was also honored at the event.
Mr. Reiss was recognized for his outstanding leadership in the pro bono arena. In addition, Mr. Reiss is an active board member of the Brennan Center, Oxfam America, Volunteers of Legal Services, and the Innocence Project, and has served as pro bono counsel on death penalty, voting rights, criminal justice, and First Amendment matters.

Weil Litigation Department head David Lender is currently a member of the board; partners Mindy Spector and Rich Rothman have also served as members; and retired partner Richard J. Davis is a past recipient of NYLPI’s Law & Society Award.
Mr. Reiss served as a law clerk to Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. of the US Supreme Court and to Judge John Minor Wisdom of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a graduate of Stanford Law School, where he serves on the Board of Visitors and was articles editor of the Stanford Law Review, and Vassar College, where he has served as a trustee.
