Co-Chair of Weil’s Transactions practice Frederick Green was named an MVP for M&A by Law360 in recognition of his work on some of the largest bet-the-company deals of 2015 including DIRECTV’s $67 billion sale to AT&T, Verizon Communication’s $4.4 billion acquisition of AOL Inc., a $1.3 billion stock-for-stock merger between systems engineering companies Engility Holdings and TASC Inc. and Home Loan Servicing Solutions Ltd.'s $1.3 billion sale to New Residential Investment Corp.
Mr. Green noted the types of deals he worked on for longtime clients DIRECTV and Verizon require years of trust-building. He explained, "I think it's very important to build long-term relationships with clients," Green said. "That's the way that you develop a relationship of confidence and trust needed for these kinds of complex and strategically important transactions ... Many of my client relationships go back a decade or more."
Mr. Green also emphasized the importance of creativity and strategic problem solving in working on these types of deals. "Each deal is unique," he said. "If you come at it from the perspective of being relentless in trying to identify what the client's goals are and be as creative as you can in solving issues in a way that enables the client to achieve its objectives, then you succeed."
