Weil’s Alexandre Vermynck Elected First Secretary of the Conférence du Stage of the Paris Bar

Alexandre Vermynck, a Litigation associate in the Paris office of global law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, has been elected First Secretary of the Conférence du Stage of the Paris Bar.

Created in 1810, the Conférence du Stage is the most prestigious debating society in the French bar. Each year twelve secretaries are elected from among the young lawyers of the Paris Bar following several rounds of oratory competition. It is a prestigious achievement to be elected as First Secretary – past Secretaries of the Conférence du Stage include three presidents of the French Republic, prime ministers, cabinet members, and members of the French Academy. As First Secretary, Alexandre will speak at the annual public assemblies of the principal judicial institutions, which will be attended by the highest-ranking French judges as well as senior government officials and members of the legal profession in France and other countries. Along with the eleven other Secretaries, Alexandre will, during one year, represent the young lawyers of the Paris Bar in France and other countries and defend the most serious and complex criminal cases in which the accused or an intervening party cannot afford a lawyer.

Alexandre focuses his legal practice on business litigation, specifically civil and criminal corporate liability and litigation related to M&A and market transactions. He received a Master’s degree in International Business Law from the University of Paris X (cum laude) in 2007 and graduated from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Science-Po) in 2009.
