Weil Team Achieves Pro Bono Victory for Domestic Violence Victim and Active Duty U.S. Army Soldier

On June 24, 2021, a Weil team, working in conjunction with David Hillman and Cathy Perifimos, in-house attorneys from ViacomCBS, achieved a pro bono win for their client when the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) approved her petition to remove the conditions on her U.S. residence. The client, originally from Egypt, moved to the United States and obtained a green card by virtue of her marriage to a U.S. citizen. After her husband became physically abusive, she filed for divorce, and sought legal assistance removing the conditions on her residence so she could remain in the United States independent of her marriage. In the interim, she also joined the U.S. Army and filed an application for naturalization by virtue of her military service. USCIS granted her petition and her application for naturalization on the same day, allowing her to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. The Weil team consisted of partner Yehudah Buchweitz and associates Robert Taylor and Maya Rich.
