Weil Represents Yahoo! on $1.1B Tumblr Acquisition

Weil is advising Yahoo! on all IP and technology aspects of its $1.1 billion all-cash acquisition of popular blogging site Tumblr. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2013. If consummated, the deal would be Yahoo!’s largest acquisition in a decade.

This deal comes on the heels of Yahoo!’s April 2013 acquisition of Summly, a mobile news aggregator. Weil advised Yahoo! on all IP and technology aspects of the Summly deal as well. In fact, Weil has handled the IP and technology aspects of ten (10) of Yahoo!’s deals in the past year.

The Weil team advising Yahoo! is led by Technology & IP Transactions partner Karen Ballack and Technology & IP Transactions associate Kwang-chien Ger (both in Silicon Valley) and includes Intellectual Property partners Randi Singer and Complex Commercial Litigation partner Benjamin Marks; Technology & IP Transactions associates Adrienne Baker and Marisa Geiger; and Complex Commercial Litigation associates Olivia Greer, Jaime Kaplan (Washington, DC), and Melissa Whitney (all in New York unless otherwise noted).
