Weil was recently honored by the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County with the Guardian of Justice Award, in recognition of the Firm’s exemplary commitment to providing pro bono legal services to communities in need.
At a ceremony where the award was presented, the Legal Aid Society thanked attorneys in Weil’s Silicon Valley office for contributing thousands of hours of pro bono service with “unsurpassed dedication,” including on a recent case that required more than two years of diligent effort by Weil attorneys to win relief for a victim of family elder abuse.
Legal Aid recognized Weil partner and Pro Bono Committee member Anne Cappella for her valuable leadership and guidance on pro bono cases, and it honored partner Karen Ballack for her achievements as co-chair of the Legal Aid’s Awards Luncheon Committee, including leading the committee to a record-breaking total of 53 leading law firm and corporate sponsors this year.
“At Weil, we are committed to sharing our expertise in order to help those in need,” Ms. Cappella said. “It's part of our firm culture and our responsibility as attorneys and members of the community.”
Weil’s long-running and award-winning pro bono program has consistently been at the forefront of efforts to secure justice for children, families and seniors with few resources and little knowledge of the legal system. In the last decade, Weil attorneys and staff have dedicated hundreds of thousands of hours to pro bono matters.
