Weil has been honored for its work in connection with four matters in The American Lawyer’s fifth annual Global Legal Awards.
Weil was recognized in the following categories:
- Global Finance Deal of the Year: Insolvency and Restructuring (U.K.) for its work advising the ad hoc committee of bondholders on the restructuring of EnQuest, the largest independent U.K. oil producer in the North Sea.
- Global Finance Deal of the Year: Insolvency and Restructuring (Africa) for the complex restructuring of Edcon, the well-known South African retail group. The transaction involved 11 months of extensive negotiations with various creditor groups across Edcon's complex capital structure to restructure Edcon's ZAR 29 billion debt burden.
- Global Finance Deal of the Year: Acquisition Finance for advising HNA Group in a $3 billion margin loan facility to finance its $6.5 billion acquisition of an approximate 25 percent equity interest in Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. from affiliates of Blackstone.
- Global M&A Deal of the Year: United States for advising the Transaction Committee of the Board of Directors of Reynolds American in its pending $49 billion sale to British American Tobacco of the 57.8% of Reynolds stock that BAT does not already own.
The awards honor the best cross-border legal work of the year, recognizing the top matters across four major categories: finance, M&A, disputes and citizenship. The grand prize winner for each of these four categories will be announced at an awards dinner on September 25, 2017 in New York City.
