Weil’s London office has won the Innovation Award at the Lord Mayor's Dragon Awards at Mansion House.
The Dragon Awards is the most prestigious awards event in the world of Corporate Responsibility in the U.K. More than 200 senior business leaders join the Lord Mayor to celebrate excellence in social impact in Greater London and across the U.K.
The Innovation Award was given in recognition of Weil’s pro bono work with Micro Rainbow. Since March 2016, the London office has provided approximately 750 hours of pro bono advice to enable Micro Rainbow to open the U.K.’s first-ever safe house for LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers. There are now ten properties in Birmingham, Leeds and London with a 100% occupancy rate. The Weil team continues to advise Micro Rainbow in relation to the organization’s plans to scale even further to support what is ultimately an often overlooked demographic; around 1,300 refugees are granted asylum in the U.K. each year who have faced hostile and homophobic prejudice and discrimination in their home countries. Statistics show that within the first 12 months of their arrival in the U.K., the majority fall quickly below the poverty line and are further excluded from mainstream society.
This award follows on our recent success in being listed as the highest-placed law firm and securing a top ten place in the U.K.’s annual GivX rankings for the third year running.
