Weil Assisted Green Card Holder in Successful U.S. Citizenship Proceeding

Weil assisted with the naturalization case of a green card holder from El Salvador who has resided in the United States for almost 35 years after initially crossing the border without documentation in 1985.

After being placed in removal proceedings, he was able to obtain a green card through a specific form of statutory relief available to individuals who enter the United States from certain Latin American countries. Since coming to the United States, he has worked for many years but was recently forced to stop working due to back injuries, and currently lives alone. Our client lacked the skills and resources to complete his naturalization application independently, and was referred to Weil by Legal Services NYC.

Weil worked with the 65-year-old U.S. resident to prepare his application and study for his naturalization test and interview. In February 2019, he successfully passed his test and interview, and was sworn in as a U.S. citizen shortly thereafter.

Associates Melissa Rutman and Becki Steinberg worked on the matter, supervised by partner Lyuba Goltser and senior associate Denise Alvarez.
