Rupert Jones, who is Of Counsel in the London Real Estate practice in Weil’s London office, has been elected as President of the City of London Law Society (which represents 53 law firms operating in the City, comprising 15,000 individual solicitors). In addition, and as part of this role, he has been installed as Master of the City of London Solicitor’s Company. The livery company is involved with charitable and civic activities connected with the City of London, including the election of the Lord Mayor.
Mr. Jones has been involved with both organisations for many years. He has been a member of the CLLS Planning and Environmental Law Committee since 1998 and served as chairman from 2005 to 2015. In 2014 he was the recipient of the City of London Law Society and City of London Solicitor’s Company’s “Distinguished Service Award” for outstanding service as Chairman of the Future of the Livery Working Party.
Mr. Jones is the first President and Master to come from a U.S.-headquartered law firm and follows in the footsteps of many Masters who have gone on to become Lord Mayor, such as Dame Fiona Woolf and Sir David Wootton.
