Corporate Chairman Michael J. Aiello has been profiled by Law360 as a 2020 Mergers & Acquisitions MVP, one of just six attorneys industrywide recognized for outstanding achievements and contributions to the practice area over the last year.
The profile highlighted Mr. Aiello’s leadership of a “smorgasbord of megadeals over the past 12 months,” including his role as lead counsel on “four big-ticket transactions” that all announced on Monday, July 13: Churchill Capital Corp’s $11 billion merger with MultiPlan; Maxim Integrated Products’ $21 billion sale to Analog Devices; Benefytt Technologies Inc.’s approximately $410 million sale to funds affiliated with Madison Dearborn Partners LLC; and SiriusXM’s $325 million acquisition of Stitcher. Mr. Aiello noted to Law360, “that was the craziest day in all my career.” “Credit to our team for being able to do it.”
Additionally, Mr. Aiello is advising Willis Towers Watson in its proposed $80 billion business combination with Aon. Notably, this transaction announced in March, just as the pandemic was beginning to take hold in the U.S.
Reflecting on 2020 so far, Mr. Aiello told Law360, “I think the biggest accomplishment is that we were able to continue to do what we do well during the pandemic.” He continued, “especially when everyone had to go remote, because these folks I work with — from junior associates to the most senior partners — are my friends and family, not just my colleagues.”
