Karen Ballack Recognized as “Top Women Lawyer” in California by the Daily Journal

Technology & IP Transactions partner Karen Ballack has been named among the “Top Women Lawyers” in California of 2015 by the Daily Journal.

In its profile of Ms. Ballack, the Daily Journal highlights her role as intellectual property counsel to leading technology companies. In her representation of Yahoo Inc., among many other matters, she assisted Yahoo with its novel five-year, $10 million partnership with Carnegie Mellon University to enable Carnegie Mellon’s researchers to work directly with Yahoo’s software and infrastructure to maximize research efficiencies in the area of machine learning and human-computer interaction. With respect to her work in M&A transactions, Ms. Ballack stressed the importance of an acquiror making sure that the target company owns the intellectual property it claims to own or that it thinks it owns and has not granted broad licenses to third parties that could sweep in the acquiror’s intellectual property.
