John O’Connor, a Litigation associate in Weil’s Dallas office, has been honored by the State Bar of Texas with the 2012 Frank J. Scurlock Award. The annual award is named for the late Frank J. Scurlock, the first chair of the Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee of the State Bar of Texas, and honors an individual attorney who has provided outstanding pro bono work. The award will be presented at the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting in Houston on June 14, 2012.
Mr. O'Connor is deeply involved in a number of pro bono activities. He served as Weil's 2011 Lend-A-Lawyer to the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program, where he devoted a three-month period to full-time, pro bono representation of indigent clients. In addition, through his pro bono work, Mr. O'Connor has obtained successful outcomes for individuals seeking political asylum due to persecution on account of their political beliefs or sexual orientation.
Mr. O’Connor serves on the Dallas office’s Pro Bono Committee, and is also a member of the board of directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Dallas chapter.
