Helyn Goldstein Named Among 2019 Influential Women in Tax Law by Law360

Partner Helyn Goldstein was profiled by Law360 as part of the publication’s inaugural Influential Women in Tax Law 2019 series, recognizing a select group of 14 women in tax law who have provided outstanding service to their clients and the public, while providing leadership and promoting diversity in their workplaces.

Ms. Goldstein was highlighted for her tax expertise on billion-dollar deals in the tech and pharmaceutical industries, including Facebook Inc.’s $19 billion acquisition of WhatsApp and Eli Lilly and Co.’s $8 billion deal to buy Loxo Oncology Inc. Tax partner Marc Silberberg recalled that Ms. Goldstein’s talents as a tax lawyer were evident early in her career, where she was “involved in structuring and implementing some of the most complex M&A transactions that the firm worked on,” building a career as “an outstanding transactional lawyer.”

When discussing her initial draw to tax law, Ms. Goldstein pointed to its unique combination of big picture items and extraordinarily detailed items, noting that the challenge of being “very engaged in both a very high-level organization way and a very detailed organization way ... For my intellectual ability, that very much clicked in a way that worked for me personally.”

The profile also recognized Ms. Goldstein’s role in helping to institutionalize diversity policies at Weil as part of the Firm’s first diversity committee. Technology and IP Transactions partner Charan Sandhu noted that the attention to detail in Ms. Goldstein’s practice is also how she pays attention to detail in giving back: “Helyn has been a very vocal and aggressive champion for women and minorities not only at the Firm, but any community that she’s in,” she said. “That passion that she has for the law, she also shares that to bring a better sense of equality to the legal profession.”
