Frederick Green, co-chair of Weil’s Transactions Practice (Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity and Infrastructure Investment) and a member of the Firm’s Management Committee, has been selected as “Dealmaker of the Week” by The Am Law Daily for his role advising Verizon Communications Inc. in its agreement to purchase AOL Inc. for approximately $4.4 billion. The deal will further drive Verizon’s LTE wireless video and OTT (over-the-top video) strategy.
Mr. Green noted that being part of a deal likely to shape areas spanning media, communications and the internet is a “privilege” and that the excitement for attorneys in this case is working on a deal of “enormous strategic importance.” Verizon will acquire AOL’s key assets including its subscription business, The Huffington Post, TechCrunch, as well as original video content and its advertising platforms.
Mr. Green has been advising Verizon since even before the company’s formation in 2000. He worked with NYNEX telephone company on its $24 billion merger with Bell Atlantic in 1996, a few years before Bell Atlantic and GTE combined to create Verizon. He has since worked on more than 20 deals Verizon including its various recent acquisitions such as Terremark Worldwide Inc., Cloudswitch, EdgeCast Networks, Inc. and Intel Media. Mr. Green commented that working on a matter of such significance and “having clients place trust in you for the matters most important to them” is what makes his work exciting.
