Courtney S. Marcus, Co-Managing Partner of Weil’s Dallas Office and a Partner in the Firm’s Banking and Finance practice, was named among the 2016 Women in Energy award honorees by Texas Lawyer. This award recognizes outstanding female attorneys in Texas for their work in the area of energy law — an area that has been particularly volatile over the past year.
In a Q&A with Texas Lawyer, Ms. Marcus detailed her fascination with the movement of financial markets and an enjoyment of the art of negotiation. She finds the energy sector, so integral in the economy and culture of Texas, particularly engaging. She described the industry as an amalgam of the science of exploration and production, the origins of land transfer and a “wildcatter spirit” that is still required despite an increase in technology.
Ms. Marcus concentrates on representing private equity firms and consortia, public and private corporate borrowers, and financial investors in connection with a wide variety of financing transactions. Over the past few years, she has played an integral role in some of the energy industry’s most high-profile financings and restructurings, including representations of E&P, midstream and energy services firms such as Breitburn Energy Partners, CHC Helicopter, Endeavor International, Magnum Hunter Resources, Paragon Offshore, Southcross Holdings LP, Vantage Drilling International, Basic Energy Services and WPX Energy.
The 2016 Women in Energy Award honorees are recognized in the December issue of Texas Lawyer magazine.
